Full vs specific structural survey

If concerns have been raised on structural matters in your property, then one of the first questions that you will need to decide is the extent of the structural survey you require.

This decision could be based on the nature of the movement that has been noticed but also by the circumstances of the survey. 

Technically, if the signs of movement or concern are only in one area of the property then you may decide the structural survey only needs to report on that area.  If, though, the signs are more widespread or you consider they may be part of a greater issue, then you may wish for us to report on the structural condition of a larger area or the property or indeed the whole building. We can tailor our scope to provide a bespoke analysis and report on any or all of the areas that concern you.  If you do decide the survey should include the entire property, then this can also include the roof space if you prefer. 

Beyond technical reasons, you may be getting the survey for your own information and comfort.  If it for others, though, they may have different requirements to your own.  Mortgage lenders often insist on the whole property being surveyed structurally.   before they will approve your mortgage.  Similarly, insurance companies may also require this to confirm the nature of the cover they will provide.

Surveying all areas is not always necessary though.  If you are repairing your own home or buying a property and don’t have any concerns on the rest of the property, then it might be enough to only have Structures-Made-Easy investigate one particular area.
