These buildings were not always designed and built to the same rigorous standards as today, despite their subsequent importance, but also the effects of time can lead to deterioration of elements of their structure. Additionally, historic engineers, architects and builders didn’t perhaps understand the influence of ground conditions on a building as well as engineers do today, so foundation issues are also often a problem.
Signs of cracking in perimeter or internal walls, or perhaps a sloping floor or bulging wall are all common in buildings of this age, regardless of their architectural merit. Such issues may be causing you concern and you are seeking or have been recommended to obtain structural advice.

We will then produce a detailed written report describing the issue, how severe any problems may be and giving options for how the problems could be repaired and the root cause addressed. We can also give a very crude guideline on the cost of those repairs. Our report will give guidance on the urgency of remedial works or whether rebuilding is required or most-cost-effective.
