Sustainability statement
Structures Made Easy has a long and productive history of sustainable structural design, which we employ wherever possible on all our projects. Minimising the use of materials, and their embodied carbon, is inherent in structural design as engineers will always aim to use the smallest or lightest beam, wall, column and so forth. Within this approach, there are many approaches that can also be adopted that will reduce the carbon footprint of the structure of the building. Structures Made Easy adopts many of these as a matter of course, where they are cost-neutral or even cost-negative. In some cases, though, there may be a cost, programme or insurance impact of employing lower carbon approaches, so we consult with our clients on their preferred approach. Often, these approaches will have a double environmental benefit as they are not only using recycled materials but also reusing materials that would otherwise be heading for landfill.
Structures Made Easy’s technical staff include engineers who have served on the Institution of Structural Engineers Sustainability committee, lectured to professionals in the construction industry on sustainable design and designed buildings where the structure was awarded and published as examples of exceptional sustainable structural design.
