Details
Structures Made Easy Ltd. was appointed to design all structural elements of the proposed project. The project involved the removal of the outrigger side and rear walls to create a large open plan kitchen and family room area. The opening from the main body of the house was enlarged to provide a new access from the dining room within the front part of the house. Structural steel beams were designed to support the first floors, extension roof and walls above. A large skylight was added to the rear extension flat roof along with a patent glazing system over the side extension to provide natural light to the new open plan space. In addition, bifold doors and fixed glazing were installed to the corner area of the rear extension using a proprietary lintel and post corner support system. Due to the proximity of the neighbouring property to the side extension, the new foundations were laid in an underpinning sequence in order to mitigate any adverse effects to the adjoining property.
