Design

Structures Made Easy Ltd. was appointed to design all structural elements of the proposed project. The loft space was converted to add a new en suite bedroom to the property. One of the main challenges was the tight headroom space and as such every possible design solution was explored in order to minimise the structural floor and roof depths; this was achieved by doubling up steel beams and structural joists. The thickness of the proposed structure was only approximately 150mm which meant lowering ceilings of the first floor below was avoided. The construction was also relatively straightforward as steel beams weights were relatively light and timber work was easy to work with on site.
