Details
Structures Made Easy Ltd. was approached by the client architect to design the structure associated with the proposed ground floor extension, roof extension and associated alterations. Traditional strip foundations were used to support the proposed extension. The rear outrigger roof over first floor was vaulted which required steel support to provide stability. General steel structure and timber elements were introduced throughout the house to alter the structural arrangement and achieve a modern look. Steel frames was provided to support concentrated loads and resist lateral loads. Compact universal column (UC) steel sections were adopted to support the outrigger first floor external wall where the ground floor wall was removed below. This helped achieve maximum headroom and an open plan layout without internal columns within the space. The dormer extension structure was designed in timber and capacity checks were carried out to ensure the existing roof rafters and attic joists could support the additional loads.
