Details
Structures Made Easy Ltd. was approached by the client architect to design both sub and super structures of the proposed extension. Traditional eccentric strip foundations were used to support the proposed extension and avoid infringing on neighbour’s land. General steel structure and timber elements were introduced throughout the house to alter the structural arrangement and achieve a modern look. Steel frames were avoided by utilising masonry piers to take concentrated loads and resist lateral loads. Compact UC steel section was adopted to support the outrigger first floor external wall where the ground floor wall underneath was removed. This helped achieve maximum headroom and open plan layout without internal columns within the space. The attic structure was designed to be the slimmest and lightest possible to achieve maximum headroom required by the client and to allow for easy transport of steel beams on site.
