Domestic property conversion and internal alterations. The scheme involved the removal of internal loadbearing and non-loadbearing walls to create revised internal living spaces including a large open plan kitchen and dining area at ground floor.

Details

Structures Made Easy Ltd. was appointed to design all structural elements of the proposed project. At the rear of the ground floor two loadbearing walls were removed and supported by steel beams above. The use of steel frames minimised the impact of the existing external wall foundations whilst providing lateral stiffness to the building that was lost following the wall removals. The steel frames also allowed for the design of shallow steel beam sizes which had a minimal impact on the available headroom within the building. The frames were boxed out and painted to provide a modern feature of the internal space. Internal alterations were carried out at the loft level to rearrange the rooms and incorporate a new Velux window.
