12 Codicote Rd, Welwyn AL6
Brief and project type
Ground floor refurbishment and extension with rear balcony to a private family dwelling.
Concrete, masonry, steel, timber
The scheme involved converting and adding additional space to the existing house. The existing overall structure was a combination of merged structures of different structural fabrics which were either mainly timber, concrete or masonry.
Structures Made Easy Ltd. was approached by client architect to design both sub and super structure of the proposed building.
Being on the main road, main parts of the structure needed to be retained to maintain stability of the property. The Intenral alterations created voids within floors and vaulted ceilings which needed steel trimmers and ridge beams to stabilise the roof. Internal alterations needed steel beams for larger openings and removal of load bearing walls. The rear balcony was constructed from steel and timber and traditional pad foundations to support the circular steel posts of the balcony.
