Brief and project type
Full refurbishment project to a private family dwelling. Project consisted of converting the existing attic with rear dormer addition, removing internal load bearing walls and extending the property at the ground floor.
Concrete, masonry, steel, timber
The scheme involved converting the old Victorian property and adding additional space with open plan layout. Structures Made Easy Ltd. was approached by client and architect to design both sub and super structure of the proposed building.
Ground floor benefited of open plan layout and extension that was achieved by inserting steel structure and steel beams under main load bearing walls of the house. Masonry piers were utilised to avoid expensive steel frames and retain the overall stability of the ground floor.
The attic structure was designed to be slimmest and lightest to achieve maximum headroom required by client and to satisfy builder needs to handle steel on site.
